What Are Gutter Irrigation Systems?

Gutter irrigation systems are a great way to reduce the amount of water that is lost through your gutters. While gutter cleaning is necessary from time to time, having a system in place will help prevent the problem from becoming overwhelming. You might think of gutter irrigation as an early warning system for your property. It will alert you to the potential for much greater water loss if you fail to take care of your gutters on a regular basis. In addition, a properly functioning gutter irrigation system can help to ensure that you never need to spend money on expensive water damage restoration work.

There are a number of different types of gutter irrigation systems that can be installed on your property. The type of system that you choose depends largely upon the size and volume of the area you have to cover with them. Some of the most popular options include the sub-irrigated planter, the rain gutter grow system, and the screen house gutter. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and I will explain each below.

Sub-irrigation planter systems use a series of water-filled bags which direct the water away from the home and down into a holding reservoir. This arrangement allows for a larger coverage area, but the disadvantage is that these bags can easily carry only a few inches of water, which may not be adequate if your garden is quite tall. Additionally, these systems require that you clean the bags regularly to ensure that nothing is clogging them. The sub-irrigation planter is a very attractive option, but one of the main disadvantages is that it does not have the backup that the rain gutters do. If your area has a lot of trees, then purchasing a sub-irrigation planter is likely to be unnecessary.

Rain gutters can be attached to your roof or wall. These gutters are designed so that you can have a smooth water flow down the flower bed, through the ground, and finally to the edge of the yard. I think it is important to keep in mind that you should never pour water from the roof onto the ground or directly onto the garden. This could lead to serious damage to your roof or walls and could also cause damage to the shrubs. Instead, use the rain gutters to direct the water away from the garden.

Screen house gutter sections work in a similar way to sub-irrigated rain gutter garden planters, where water flows down into a holding reservoir. However, they only have one drain, which allows the water to be directed away from the house and plants. I find this to be a more appealing option, because it allows you to have a larger water flow to plant roots.

Whether you choose screen house gutter materials or sub-irrigated rain gutters, it is imperative that you properly prepare the area before installing the system. The area must be clear of any obstacles such as trees and other vegetation, which may pose a problem when trying to install the system. You will also need to have the proper drainage to ensure that all of the water flowing to your home is successfully drained. If you’re unsure about whether or not the area is ready for installation, you may need to contact a local contractor to get an estimate.
